Day 1 – Welcome in Budapest

Arrive in Budapest and transfer to your downtown hotel. Meet you fellow travellers and Danube Destinations Tour Director at orientation. Optional evening walking tour in the city.

Day 2 – Panoramic Tour of Budapest, river cruise

Bus and walking tour to see Pest and Buda, including the Heroes’ Square, Opera House, Andrassy Avenue (WHS), St. Stephen Basilica and Parliament. Relaxing walk in the Castle District (WHS) to visit the Matthias Church and enjoy stunning panoramas of the city and river. Evening river cruise on the Danube River. Overnight in Budapest.

Day 3 –Danube Bend

After a short bus ride, in Esztergom visit the Basilica, the Royal Palace and the Christian Museum. Stop by Visegrad, a medieval fortified citadel with marvelous views of the Danube Bend. Szentendre is an artist’s settlement with galleries, cobblestone streets and cute stores. Visit the Margit Kovacs Ceramics Museum and enjoy some free time before returning to the capital. Overnight in Budapest.

Day 4 – Pannonhalma, Herend Porcelain Factory, Tihany Abbey, Lake Balaton

Leave Budapest and travel to Heviz whith stops at several fascinating locations including The Benedictine Arch Abbey of Pannonhalma (WHS), the Herend Porcelain Factory and The Porcelanium, and Tihany, on the northern shores of Lake Balaton. In the evening reach your destination for the night at Hévíz [‘Hot Water’] in Western Hungary.

Day 5 – Sümeg, Tapolca, Héviz Thermal Lake

Visit Sumeg Castle, Hungary’s best-preserved fortress, then stroll the small town of Tapolca where you can also paddle around in an underground cave. After our return to Heviz, relax in the warm medicinal waters of the largest thermal lake in Europe.

Day 6 – Keszthely, Siófok, Pécs

After breakfast a short morning bus ride  will take you to Keszthely and the beautiful Festetics Palace with its well maintained English-style garden. Our next stop is Siófok, where we can enjoy the panorama of the lake. Overnight in Pécs.

Day 7 – Pécs

Today, we explore the historic sights of Pecs on a walking tour, including the Old Town, the Cathedral, the former Turkish Mosque, and the 4th century Christian Basilica (WHS). Free time in the afternoon. Accommodation in Pécs.

Day 8 – Authentic Cooking and Horse Show in Lajosmizse, Eger

Travel to the heart of the Hungarian Great Plains (Puszta). Enjoy an authentic, outdoors “puszta” cooking typical for the region, while listening to live gipsy music. After your hearty meal watch a horse show and marvel at the skills of the Hungarian “cowboys”. Overnight in Eger.

Day 9 – Eger City and Castle Tour

Walking tour of the city of Eger to explore Dobó Square, the Lyceum, Fortress, and the second largest Cathedral in Hungary. Free afternoon. In the evening discover the wineries of the Lady of the Beautiful Valley or relax at the thermal spa of the Egerszalok Salt Hills. Overnight in Eger.

Day 10 – Szilvasvárad, picnic at the Valley of Szalajka, Lillafüred, optional evening cave bath visit at Miskolctapolca

Travel into the Bukk Mountains and take a narrow gauge train through Szalajka Valley, where you can enjoy a self made fish picnic. Move onto Lillafured for our accommodation. Optional evening swim at the thermal cave baths of Miskolctapolca.

Day 11 Tokaj – Tarcal

Travel to Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region (WHS). Visit the Historical Wine Museum exhibition. Free time. Overnight in Tarcal.

Day 12 Hollókő, Budapest

In the morning we depart for Budapest. On the way we will visit Holloko (WHS). Once in Budapest you will have free time to explore the city on your own. Overnight in Budapest.

Day 13 Gödöllő, Budapest

Visit the Royal Palace in Godollo. Free afternoon and evening in Budapest. Overnight in Budapest.

Day 14 – Budapest

Free time or optional tours in Budapest. Farewell dinner at the famed Gundel restaurant, one of the finest restaurants in the world.
