Day 1 – Welcome in Budapest
Arrive in Budapest and transfer to your downtown hotel. Meet you fellow travellers and Danube Destinations Tour Director at orientation. Optional evening walking tour in the city.
Day 2 – Panoramic Tour of Budapest, river cruise
Bus and walking tour to see Pest and Buda, including the Heroes’ Square, Opera House, Andrassy Avenue (WHS), St. Stephen Basilica and Parliament. Relaxing walk in the Castle District (WHS) to visit the Matthias Church and enjoy stunning panoramas of the city and river. Evening river cruise on the Danube River. Overnight in Budapest.
Day 3 –Danube Bend
After a short bus ride, in Esztergom visit the Basilica, the Royal Palace and the Christian Museum. Stop by Visegrad, a medieval fortified citadel with marvelous views of the Danube Bend. Szentendre is an artist’s settlement with galleries, cobblestone streets and cute stores. Visit the Margit Kovacs Ceramics Museum and enjoy some free time before returning to the capital. Overnight in Budapest.
Day 4 – Pannonhalma, Herend Porcelain Factory, Tihany Abbey, Lake Balaton
Leave Budapest and travel to Heviz whith stops at several fascinating locations including The Benedictine Arch Abbey of Pannonhalma (WHS), the Herend Porcelain Factory and The Porcelanium, and Tihany, on the northern shores of Lake Balaton. In the evening reach your destination for the night at Hévíz [‘Hot Water’] in Western Hungary.
Day 5 – Sümeg, Tapolca, Héviz Thermal Lake
Visit Sumeg Castle, Hungary’s best-preserved fortress, then stroll the small town of Tapolca where you can also paddle around in an underground cave. After our return to Heviz, relax in the warm medicinal waters of the largest thermal lake in Europe.
Day 6 – Keszthely, Siófok, Pécs
After breakfast a short morning bus ride will take you to Keszthely and the beautiful Festetics Palace with its well maintained English-style garden. Our next stop is Siófok, where we can enjoy the panorama of the lake. Overnight in Pécs.
